Vietnamese Government Makes Bear Bile Farming Illegal

Ngebray.com,- Vietnam end the bear bile farming in their country. Over 10,000 bears are kept in bile farms in China and around 1,000 in Vietnam. Their bile is extracted using painful techniques and used in traditional medicines. The country has signed a Memorandum of Understanding aiming to eradicate illegal bear bile farming by 2020. An Animal Asia Founder, Jill Robinson, said, “Today the Vietnamese government is showing major commitment, and insightful leadership to start a realistic process for closing all the farms and helping the remaining 1,000-plus bears. It’s still languishing in cages across the country”.

Bears live for up to 30 years in the wild, but bears in farms live for only 5-10 years. They tend to die of infection, disease and malnutrition.
