Ngebray.com,- Making five healthy lifestyle choices could prolong your life by ten years. The habits entail a healthy diet, exercising regularly, drinking in moderation, not smoking, and maintaining a healthy body weight.
A new study quantified how much these habits could impact a person’s health and longevity. Following these habits could extend a woman’s life expectancy at age 50 by 14 years and extend a man’s life by 12 years.
Researchers tracked a group of close to 79,000 women and over 44,300 men for 34 years. People were considered to have a healthy diet if they fell into the top 40% of the study group. They drank moderately if they had a drink or fewer per day for women, and two drinks or fewer for men. They maintained a healthy body weight if their body mass index fell between 18.5 and 24.9. They exercised regularly by staying active for 30 minutes a day. They didn’t smoke by never picking up the habit of smoking.
Those who followed these habits were 74% less likely to die during the follow up period of the study than those who didn’t. They were 82% less likely to die from cardiovascular disease and 65% less likely to die from cancer. The results show the importance of making small but impactful changes to your health and daily routines.
