Ngebray.com,- Archaeologists in Peru have uncovered what could be the site of the largest known instance of child sacrifice in the Americas and maybe even the world. National Geographic is reporting that the remains of more than 140 children and 200 young llamas were found in a northwestern Peruvian city. The sacrifice according to archaeologists took place nearly 550 years ago.
Most of the kids were said to be between 8 and 12 years old when they died and were buried facing the Pacific Ocean to the west. The llamas all younger than 18 months were buried facing the Andes to the east. Officials say that evidence from a layer of dried mud led them to believe the killings were done in one single event. The investigation will now turn to learning about the victims lives.
