Ngebray.com,- Riots erupted Monday night in a predominantly immigrant suburb of Sweden’s capital, Stockholm. Some looters wearing masks set cars ablaze, looted shops and threw rocks at police, injuring one officer, Swedish officials said. The violence broke out after officers arrested a suspect on drug charges.
The riots come two days after President Trump criticized Sweden’s immigration policies in a campaign rally in Florida on Saturday. The remark sparked a global backlash on social media and requests for clarification from Swedish officials.
On Sunday, Trump said in a tweet that he was referencing a Fox News story about a “surge in gun violence and rape” by immigrants in Sweden. Swedish authorities launched an investigation into the unrest but said order and security had been restored by midnight. There was no evidence that the violence was linked to Trump’s comments or to Sweden’s immigration policy.
