Ngebray.com,- Boeing unveiled its new space suit on Wednesday. The new suit is around 40% lighter than previous suits. The designer said, “So a traditional suit that Chris might have worn on the shuttle would be 30 pounds. This suit, what he’s wearing right here is only about 12 pounds”. It features a wide polycarbonate visor, Lightweight footwear co-designed by Reebok. And is designed to give greater mobility, and stay cooler. It also features special gloves that will allow the wearer to use a touchscreen device while wearing the suit. The designer added, “So, any type of tablet, you’ll be able to interact with while wearing these gloves while suited, fully up in the suit.” It will be worn by all astronauts who travel to low-Earth orbit destinations aboard Boeing’s Starliner capsule.
In October, Boeing announced that it was pushing the first crewed flight of its Starliner capsule back to mid-2018 because of supplier and technical issues.
