Ngebray.com,- Now we can broadcast live video directy on Twitter as easily as composing a tweet. Twitter rolled out the feature Wednesday, underscoring the growing importance of live video to social media companies. Twitter says live video is the destination to quote what’s happening right now. The new feature is powered by Periscope, an app Twitter acquired in 2015 for slightly less than $100 million. One of a user explain, “Tap on this button, give your stream a title, and then hit Start Broadcast”.
Instead of going to the Periscope app to create, like, or comment on live broadcasts, users can stay within the Twitter app. Both Twitter and Facebook have been pouring resources into their live video capabilities to juice growth and expand advertising opportunities. In April, Twitter obtain the rights to stream some of NFL’s Thursday night games. Then in July, it struck a deal with CBS News to live stream the Republican and Democratic conventions. Facebook, on the other hand has paid internet styles to create live stream videos and has run ad campaigns to coax users to embrace the live streaming function. It’s aim, to refashion the social network into a video first company. Twitter reported dwindling growth revenue in the third quarter. An executive said at the time that the company would double down on its video strategy. Twitter says it doesn’t plan to shut down Periscope, and will continue to invest in it. As of last year, Periscope said it had 10 million users.
