Aircraft of Brazilian Soccer Team Crashes in Colombia

Ngebray.com,- An aircraft carrying 81 people, including the Brazilian Chapecoense soccer team, has crashed in Colombia, killing 76 of the people on board. The plane, carrying 72 passengers and nine crew was approaching Medellín international airport when it crashed. It had departed from Sao Paulo’s Guarulhos airport on Tuesday and made a stop in Bolivia.

The authorities said the plane had reported electrical problems as it flew near the towns of La Ceja and La Unión, in mountainous stretches around Medellín. Colombian authorities launched a rescue operation in the mountainous region near Medellín, Colombia’s civil aviation authority said on Twitter. The club side were travelling to play against Colombia’s Atletico Nacional in the Copa Sudamericana finals.

The South American Football Confederation said it had suspended the Copa Sudamericana, and the group’s president is heading to Medellín.
